History of Trang City Municipality Trang City Municipality formerly was the Trang Sanitary Office established in B.E.2474 in the reign of King Rama VI, then it was upgraded to Trang Town Municipality on December 10th, B.E.2478 and recently it had been promoted as a Trang City Municipality by the Royal Decree called “the Royal Decree Establishing the Trang City Municipality of Trang province, B.E. 2542” which was effective from November 11th, B.E. 2542. Physical Feature The topography of Trang City Municipal area is of laterite plain that is suitable for agriculture. The northern and northeastern areas are of lowlands which is under water part of the year and the western area is of highlands
Climate Monsoon has much impacted to the weather in Trang because of one shore reaching the Indian Ocean and another side reaches the South China Sea. The weather therefore does not very hot or cold and rain occurs all year round. Most rain does occur from May to October and scatter from November to January. Trang has predominant hot and rainy season.
Economy Generally, most people work for commerce, government service and state enterprise service, thus Trang Municipality is a center of commercial and service affairs in order to serve both government and private sectors. Some economic condition is related to agricultural products and fishery. The predominant products are para rubber, rice, oil palm and aquatic animals which are gained from both sea and fresh water, thus there are many distributing centers in the municipal area. They are 2 educational systems; formal and non-formal school. 7 municipal schools are under the control of Trang City Municipality.
Public Health Service Trang City Municipality has 2 public health service centers in order to serve inhabitants and it furthermore has another health care service, as the followings, 1. Government Agencies for health care and services; Trang Hospital and MuangTrang Public Health Center. - Trang Hospital provides 555 beds, 50 doctors, 11 dentists, 21 pharmacists, and 426 nurses. 2. Technical centers for health; Trang malarial center 41, Trang mental health center, Boromratchonnee Trang Nursing College and Trang medical science center. 3. Medical service center operated by private. - Wattanaphat Hospital provides 120 beds, 13 doctors, 2 dentists, 3 pharmacists, 39 professional nurses and 5 technical nurses. - Trang Ruamphat Hospital provides 150 beds, 12 doctors, 1 dentist, 3 pharmacists, 30 professional nurses and 3 technical nurses. - Rachdamnern Hospital provides 50 beds, 5 doctors, 1 pharmacist, 8 professional nurses and 4 technical nurses.
Public utilities and facilities 1. 1 slaughterhouse, situated at Thum-Pond area, Kantang-Sikao road, built in B.E. 2519 and two water treatment wells, built on the slaughterhouse area. They have been used for treating wastewater from the slaughterhouse before released to public drainpipes. 2. 1 waste disposal site, located in Thum-Pond area, Kantang-Sikao road, Tambon Bangrak. It is about 119 Rais of the area that the solid waste is treated with landfill method. 3. 2 stadiums. 4. 3 playgrounds; Phrayaratsadanupradit monument public park, Srakrapangsurin public park and in front of Trang governor’s official residence. 5. 5 recreational areas and parks; Srakrapangsurin public park, covering the area of about 50 Rais, Phrayaratsadanupradit monument public park, covering the area of about 25 Rais, Somdejphrasrinakarin park (Thung-Nam-Phut), covering the area of about 280 Rais, Sangkhavit public park and Old prison public park.(Ruanjamkao Park) 6. 3 libraries; National Achives, Trang, Trang municipal library and public library of non-formal educational school. 7. 6 crematoriums.
Religions and Traditions Most population greater than 80% is Buddhist, next below is Muslim, Christian and others respectively. Most of the population is Chinese-Thai. Rituals and tradition have been mixed between Thai and Chinese culture.
